Dong and beyond

Day 1: Dibrugarh to Wakro via Namsai Begin your journey from Dibrugarh, crossing the Bogibeel Bridge to enter Arunachal Pradesh. En route, stop at Namsai, a serene town known for its stunning Golden Pagoda (Kongmu Kham). Spend some time exploring this beautifully constructed Buddhist temple surrounded by landscaped gardens and lotus ponds. Continue your drive through lush tea gardens, dense forests, and hilly terrain to reach Wakro, a quaint village nestled amidst the Eastern Himalayan foothills. Wakro is famous for its orange orchards and the Mishmi tribal culture. In the evening, enjoy a local Mishmi meal and stay at a homestay or eco-lodge.


Day 2: Wakro to Walong via Parashuram Kund Depart from Wakro in the morning and head toward Walong, a picturesque destination close to the Indo-China border. Stop at Parashuram Kund, a sacred pilgrimage site on the Lohit River. According to Hindu mythology, this is where Parashuram cleansed his sins. You can take a short trek to the kund, enjoy the serene surroundings, or dip in the holy waters. Afterward, proceed to Walong, passing through stunning landscapes of valleys, rivers, and thick forests. On arrival, relax and take in the fresh mountain air. Walong is historically significant as the site of a key battle during the 1962 Indo-China War. Spend the night in a guesthouse or basic lodge.


Day 3: Dong Trek Wake up early to embark on the trek to Dong Village, the easternmost inhabited village in India, known as the "Land of the Rising Sun." The trek is moderately challenging but rewarding, with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys, rivers, and snow-clad peaks. Reach Dong to witness the first rays of the sun illuminate the Eastern Himalayas, a surreal experience. Spend time exploring the village, interacting with the friendly locals, and learning about their unique way of life. Return to Walong by late afternoon, where you can relax by the Lohit River and enjoy a peaceful evening.


Day 4: Kibithu and Kaho Take a scenic drive to Kibithu, India’s easternmost motorable village. Marvel at the stunning views of the mountains and valleys as you approach this remote and serene destination. Explore the Indo-China border area and visit Kaho, the last village on the Indian side of the border. Kaho is a quaint hamlet known for its pristine beauty and vibrant tribal culture. Interact with the Meyor tribe, learn about their traditions, and enjoy the unspoiled charm of the region. Return to Walong by evening for an overnight stay, soaking in the tranquility of this remote paradise.


Day 5: Walong to Wakro Start your return journey to Wakro, retracing the scenic route through verdant valleys and picturesque villages. Along the way, enjoy the sights of the Lohit River cutting through the rugged mountains. On reaching Wakro, spend the afternoon exploring the orange orchards and visiting the Glow Lake, a hidden gem surrounded by dense forests and snow-capped peaks. Wakro’s serene ambiance provides the perfect backdrop for unwinding. End your day with a traditional Mishmi meal and a warm stay at a local homestay.


Day 6: Wakro to Dibrugarh Conclude your tour with a drive back to Dibrugarh, crossing the Bogibeel Bridge once again. Arrive in Dibrugarh, where you can visit a tea estate if time permits or relax before your onward journey. This six-day adventure offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and remote wilderness, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Arunachal Pradesh’s pristine landscapes.
