Anita Dixit

Kolkata

I went to Sohra solo. It was a peaceful, welcoming, and very well-organized experience! The Northeast is a region of breathtaking views, but without a well-planned trip, it can turn into endless rushing. Northeast Nook took care of my specific requirements for peace and unwinding. They made sure the trip was slow, the homestay was tranquil, and I got just what I wanted in a safe environment. I came back to Kolkata with my batteries recharged and memories that will remain for a long time. This experience has convinced me to return to the Northeast for more!

A Safe and Slow-Paced Sanctuary from the Concrete Jungle

When Anita first reached out to us, her goal was beautifully clear: she wanted to escape the heavy, concrete vistas of city life and find a quiet pocket of the world to completely unwind and reset. Recovering from urban burnout requires a different kind of travel—one where the clock slows down, the checklist disappears, and the landscape does the healing. Traveling as a solo woman to the hills, she needed an experience that was not only deeply peaceful but also completely welcoming and safe.

To honor her vision of absolute relaxation, we designed a slow, soulful 5-day retreat centered entirely around the mist-laden cliffs of Sohra. As Anita noted, while the Northeast is a region of breathtaking views in itself, without a well-planned trip, it can quickly turn into endless rushing from one sightseeing spot to another. To protect her from that tourist fatigue, we curbed the pace to gentle, leisurely exploration—visiting iconic waterfalls and wandering through the cool, prehistoric limestone pathways of Arwah Cave, followed by the serene hidden waters of Wei Sawdong, Lyngksiar Falls, and the tranquil rock pools of the Garden of Caves.

The rest of her journey was dedicated entirely to the forgotten art of doing nothing. Staying in a beautiful valley-view property, Anita was able to just sit back, read, practice gentle meditation, and watch the legendary Meghalaya clouds drift seamlessly through the deep mountain gorges right from her balcony. We took care of all her specific requirements for the trip, making sure her homestay was perfectly tranquil and ensuring all her meals were mindfully prepared without dried fish. Her retreat wrapped up exactly as she wanted: a leisurely morning, a casual stroll through the handicraft stalls at Shillong's Police Bazaar for unique local mementos, and a perfectly timed drop-off at the airport.

Anita came back to Kolkata with her batteries recharged and memories that will remain for a long time.
